What we compute ourselves

The scores, trends, flips, outcomes and charts on this site are computed by us from the market data below, using the rules we publish. The sources did not compute them and have not checked them. We do not republish any source's feed: what the site shows are our own figures, plus the few readings named below with their source beside them.

Sources in use

Binance, Coinbase and Bitstamp. Prices from Binance, Coinbase and Bitstamp. We read each coin's public spot market candles (4 hours and one day) from one of these exchanges through its public API; the coin's page names which. A coin measured against Bitcoin uses the same exchange's native Bitcoin-quoted market where it lists one; the page says so. The candles themselves are not shown; the site shows the closes at flips, the levels and the returns we compute from them.

Binance futures. The Bitcoin funding rate and open interest on the market overview come from Binance's public futures market data, credited beside the figures.

CoinGecko. Market data powered by CoinGecko: the list of coins, their rank, market value, supply and 24-hour trading volume, the market-wide totals and shares, the altcoin season index we build from them, and a coin's all-time high and its date where it came before our own price history (the page says "before our price history begins"). Coin logos are provided by CoinGecko and are shown through our own server. The credit "Powered by CoinGecko" appears in the footer of every page, as CoinGecko's API terms ask. CoinGecko's terms limit how long API data may be kept; the site keeps a daily history of the market-wide totals, and we are confirming with CoinGecko that this use is covered or moving it to a plan that covers it.

Alternative.me. Fear and greed index by Alternative.me, which asks for the credit to appear right next to the data; it does.

DefiLlama. Stablecoin supply from DefiLlama, which publishes its data freely and openly.

FRED. Economic data from FRED, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis data service. Required notice: "This product uses the FREDĀ® API but is not endorsed or certified by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis." We use stock index closes from FRED only to compute how closely Bitcoin has moved with them; the index levels themselves are not shown.

Lexend and IBM Plex Sans. The typefaces Lexend (copyright 2018 The Lexend Project Authors) and IBM Plex Sans (copyright 2017 IBM Corp.) are used under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1 (the license text). They are served from this site, not from Google.

Material Symbols. The icons are Material Symbols by Google, used under the Apache License, Version 2.0. They are drawn into the pages as graphics, so no icon font is fetched from Google.
